76 Days and Counting!
Yes, as of May 6th, 76 days remain before Karen and I move to England! On July 21st (also Karen's birthday), we drive to New York City with personal belongings, a small library and other ministry materials. There we will board the Queen Mary II to sail to England by ship! Yes, you read correctly--by ship. We arrive at Southampton, England on July 29th and proceed by rental car to our new home. Considering the extra cost of
overweight luggage when flying, the transatlantic cruise with its unlimited weight allowance is actually quite reasonable. The leisurely crossing will also allow us to catch our breath after closing up a busy season of our lives, and before beginning a new one. We even get to escape jet lag! Before then, there are a few things happening you can pray about...
Someone Has A Screw Loose
On Tuesday, May 6th, I return to see the orthopedic surgeon who repaired my broken ankle with plates and screws almost 3 years ago. One screw is trying to work its way out of the ankle, and will probably need to be removed. Pray that healing goes smoothly, without complication.
Africa Trip -- May 19 to June 4
PRAY that a missionary colleague and I will be a blessing in the Gambia as we conduct a Spiritual Life Conference for Christian workers from ABWE and other groups. I will lead in 7 worship sessions (with my trusty guitar), share how God called me to faith in
Christ, and teach on practical aspects of ministry. On the way back home, we will do a side trip to England and visit our church and colleagues there.
Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch...
While I am away having fun in Africa, Karen will be at home working on the house, painting, cleaning, packing, storing, disposing. PRAY for strength and emotional wellbeing. A certain amount of grieving is going on these days.
Our Kids Used to be Small?
Adam (25) and Autumn will celebrate their daughter Ebony's first birthday while I am out of country. What a cutie!
Amy (24) and Dave (Wierzbicki) are gearing up for change. Dave plans to go back to Heritage College to prepare for ministry, while Amy does a P.H.T. (Putting Hubby Through).
Alisa (22) and Adam (Gagne) have found an apartment to rent locally where they will move to after their July 12th wedding.
Aaron (21) lives and works in another city. He is looking for a new place to live somewhere else there for when his present lease expires in the summer.
Angelie (19) has moved back home and started a new job at a local nursery. She will work there until July, when she leaves for her missions trip to Swaziland. She still has quite a bit of support to raise and has only just started fundraising. Final exams dominated her thoughts until recently.
Dollars and Cents
We praise God for news of a provision of about $2,000 specifically to help in setting up our new home in England. England is a comparitively expensive place to live these days. We look to God for his supply of our needs. He has been faithful to us in the past, and we have no reason to think it will change in the future. It's wonderful to serve a God who promises to be loyal to his people!
Thank you for standing with us,
George
