"Bonnie has heard that her mother died. Please pray for her."
Those were the words of Bonnie's husband, Matt S., when he called the other day. This is a family facing deportation. The final appeal to the government has been submitted and now they wait weeks, perhaps months, for an answer. In the meantime, Bonnie's mother has passed away and Bonnie cannot go her homeland lest she be unable to return to her husband and children afterward. To complicate things, their 16-year-old daughter was born here in the west and will be separated from them if they are forced to leave. Please pray that God would grant them grace in the eyes of the authorities and allow them to stay. They are no threat to anyone, and would be an asset. Also pray that God would open their eyes to the truth of salvation in Jesus Christ. And pray for God's comfort for Bonnie with the loss of her mother.
George has a visible lump on his neck that is being investigated medically. A catscan will be done soon and a visit to a specialist is coming up also. Other than being there, the lump is not creating obvious problems for George. But it does make Karen worry a bit. We appreciate your prayers while we work to resolve this.
Our oldest daughter Amy has moved her wedding date up to July 14th. After she and her fiance Dave set the original October date, they started thinking, "Why wait till the fall?" I guess they couldn't think of a reason. Plans are moving along nicely.
The expected first grandchild who we now know is a girl, will reportedly make her grand entrance on or about May 28th. Meanwhile, her father Adam, is cramming for final exams and lining up income opportunities for afterward. Mother Autumn, is healthy and now on maternity leave waiting for the big day.
From May 9 to 24, Karen and George will be visiting with colleagues in Birmingham as they work toward the move later on. So far, we have had little encouraging news in the way of additional financial support. In fact, we have lost some support due to churches reprioritizing their missions giving. Our supporters seem to be sticking with us for the most part, but there have been no increases we are aware of, nor any new outside support. We are trusting in God and doing what we can to make the need known. Officially, we are close to 80% of what ABWE says we need to live and minister there. In real terms, it translates to over $1,800 per month in new support required. Pray for God's will in this matter.
Thank you for your ongoing interest and prayers,
George and Karen
