The Best Rehab Ever!
Remember George's badly broken ankle with the hardware and pins? Now, I (George) can hardly tell that it ever was injured. I walk without a limp and can even break into a jog if I need to. My scheduled physiotherapy sessions certainly helped a lot, but what really put the leg back in good shape was the many miles we logged on foot during our 2-week 25th anniversary vacation in Italy. I started the trip using a cane but after a couple of days, we decided to leave it at our B&B guestroom. I kept leaving it at restaurants and other places when we would stop to eat or shop. Anyway, thank you all for your prayers. The vacation was therapeutic--for the leg, for our marriage, and for our spirits--especially as we visited places like the catacombs where early persecuted Christians were laid to rest, the Appian Way on which the apostle Paul walked as he headed for Rome, and the Mamertime Prison where he spent his final days before being martyred for the cause of Christ. May the Lord grant us singleness of heart in serving Christ to the day we go home to be with him.
Full Steam Ahead...
As usual, the fall provides us with opportunities to share in church missions conferences, on top of our normal day-to-day ministry. It's like being on the field and on furlough at the same time! As well, during the third week of October, Karen and I will be in Atlanta, Georgia for a special consultation on ministries to Muslims in North American. It should be a good time for networking with others engaged in similar activities.
Karen's ESL ministry continues to grow and provide new opportunities to share Christ with immigrants seeking to improve their English skills. Pray for "Ted" and "Kelly", a young couple who are seekers, now attending our church here through Karen's instigation.
Pray also for "Moe" who recently viewed a film on the life of Christ with George. Over the last few months, he has been almost a part of the furniture at our house as we assisted him in various ways get ready for a move within the city. May God open the home of his heart to the Lord Jesus.
Homeward Bound
As I write this, our daughter Lisa is on her way home from her 5-month ministry in Nicaragua. Her finances ended in the black, thanks to a couple of generous gifts after our August update. Thank you so much! We know from personal experience how distracting and distressing financial problems can be when you are trying to focus with your whole heart on ministry to others. But Lisa seemed to take it in stride. She's a real trooper, even if I say so as a biased and proud father!
Yours in Christ,
George for all
